Dali: Blue Mountains & Yellow Fields

During a family trip to Dali, Yunnan, we spent our first day in the nearby town of Xizhou. We arrived after dark, and this view revealed itself after sunrise from the balcony of our bed and breakfast.

In painting the scene, I drew inspiration from my father-in-law's minimalist approach to landscape painting. The clouds, mountains, and fields are rendered with loose, expressive brushwork, while the town itself is treated with a more structured and detailed approach.
